“Hæ” is “Hi” in Icelandic and I just like to add two more 'æ's for more impact.
Anyways, Hæ! I'm Rakel, the founder of SilkType, a type foundry based in Reykjavík, Iceland. I'm a graphic designer and I love to draw letters.
I graduated from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2016 and started SilkType a year later with my first font Silk Serif. While starting SilkType I worked as an art director at the Condé Nast publication, Glamour Iceland, where I developed a passion for graphic design in fashion.
My appreciation for typefaces as materials for designers inspired me to name all my fonts after fabrics. I believe the right font can make or break a design project, just as the right fabric can make or break a fashion design.
When I’m not obsessing over ligatures or the lenght of my serifs I’m usually creating detailed pencil drawings (if you are interested, here is my other website). You might also find me on a slope somewhere sliding on my snowboard.
Thanks for stopping by and getting to know me a little better. Seeing my fonts used all over the world makes me incredibly happy, and I can’t wait to see how you use them in your designs.
