    END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT (EULA)

    Last updated: January 2026

    Summary

When you purchase a SilkType font, you are buying a license to use the font, not ownership of the font itself.

Different licenses allow different types of use, such as print, web, logos, social media, broadcast, or templates. Most real-world projects use more than one medium, which means multiple licenses are often required.

You may use the font only in the ways described by the license(s) you have purchased. You may not share, resell, or redistribute the font files, or allow others to access them.

If you’re unsure which license you need, or if your project changes over time, you can always upgrade or contact us for guidance. This agreement exists to protect both you and the work that goes into making the fonts.

The legal text below defines these rights and responsibilities in detail.

    IMPORTANT NOTICE

This End User License Agreement (“Agreement”) is a legally binding contract between you (“Licensee”) and SilkType (“Licensor,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

By downloading, installing, accessing, or using the font software provided by SilkType (“Font Software”), you agree to be bound by the terms of this Agreement. If you do not agree, you must not use the Font Software.

    1. Definitions

For the purposes of this Agreement:

    • Font Software means the font files provided by SilkType, including all styles, weights, glyphs, alternates, OpenType features, and associated data.
    • Licensee means the individual or legal entity that has lawfully obtained a license to use the Font Software.
    • Project means a specific body of work created by or for the Licensee.
    • Workstation means a single physical or virtual device on which the Font Software is installed.
    • Domain means a single website domain and its subdomains.
    • End User means any third party who interacts with a Project but does not receive access to the Font Software itself.

    2. Ownership

The Font Software is licensed, not sold.

SilkType retains all right, title, and interest in and to the Font Software, including all intellectual property and copyright. No ownership rights are transferred under this Agreement.

    3. License Structure

    Licenses are usage-based, not ownership-based.

Each license grants limited rights for specific uses only. Any use not expressly permitted under the applicable license requires the purchase of an additional license or written permission from SilkType.

A single Project may require multiple licenses.

All licenses are non-exclusive, non-transferable, and non-sublicensable unless explicitly stated otherwise.

    3.1 License Duration

All licenses granted under this Agreement are perpetual, meaning they do not expire and do not require renewal, provided that the Licensee remains in compliance with the terms of this Agreement.

The scope of each license is limited to the specific use, medium, quantity, and conditions described in the applicable license and on the invoice at the time of purchase.

If the Licensee’s use expands beyond the scope of the purchased license, an additional license must be obtained.

    4. Desktop (Print) License

    4.1 Grant of License

The Desktop (Print) License grants the Licensee the right to install and use the Font Software on the licensed number of Workstations for the creation of static, non-interactive designs.

    4.2 Permitted Uses

The Licensee may use the Font Software to create:

    • Printed materials such as books, magazines, posters, brochures, and similar works
    • Packaging, labels, and physical products
    • Signage and wayfinding systems
    • Static digital outputs such as PDFs and rasterized images
    • Commercial and client work

    4.3 Restrictions

The Desktop License does not permit:

    • Use on websites or web-based platforms
    • Use for logos, trademarks, or wordmarks
    • Use in social media content
    • Use in video, motion, or broadcast media
    • Use in templates or systems distributed to third parties
    • Sharing, redistributing, or sublicensing the Font Software
    • Installation beyond the licensed number of Workstations

    5. Web License

    5.1 Grant of License

The Web License grants the Licensee the right to embed the Font Software on a single Domain using approved web font technologies.

    5.2 Permitted Uses

    The Licensee may:

    • Use the Font Software for website content, including headings, body text, and interface elements
    • Use the Font Software on commercial and client websites
    • Self-host the web font files or use an approved hosting solution

    5.3 Pageview Limitation

Use is limited to the maximum number of monthly pageviews purchased. The Licensee is responsible for monitoring usage and upgrading the license if limits are exceeded.

    5.4 Restrictions

The Web License does not permit:

    • Print, packaging, or editorial use
    • Logo or trademark use
    • Social media, broadcast, or template use
    • Use in applications, software, or downloadable products
    • Distribution of the Font Software outside the licensed Domain

    6. Logo License

    6.1 Grant of License

The Logo License grants the Licensee the right to use the Font Software to create a logo, wordmark, or trademark for a single brand or legal entity.

    6.2 Permitted Uses

    The Licensee may:

    • Use the resulting logo across all media
    • Modify outlines of the Font Software solely for logo creation

    6.3 Scope Limitation

This license applies only to the logo itself. Any additional use of the Font Software requires the appropriate license(s).

    6.4 Restrictions

The Logo License does not permit:

    • Use of the Font Software for general typesetting or layout
    • Use for multiple brands or entities
    • Distribution of the Font Software files

    7. Social Media License

    7.1 Grant of License

The Social Media License permits use of the Font Software in social media content.

The Licensee is responsible for selecting the appropriate license tier based on reasonably accurate information available at the time of purchase. If actual usage materially exceeds the licensed tier, the Licensee must upgrade the license accordingly.

    7.2 Permitted Uses

    Including but not limited to:

    • Organic posts
    • Paid advertisements
    • Stories, reels, thumbnails, and similar formats

    7.3 Restrictions

    This license does not permit:

    • Print, web, logo, broadcast, or template use
    • Distribution or sharing of the Font Software files

7.4 Clarification of Social Media Advertising

For the purposes of this Agreement, social media use includes both organic and paid content distributed within social media platforms, including but not limited to Meta (Facebook, Instagram), TikTok, LinkedIn, and similar services.

Use of the Font Software in video content published and promoted exclusively through social media platforms falls under the Social Media License, regardless of campaign size or advertising spend.

    7.5 Follower-Based Licensing

Social Media Licenses are priced based on the number of followers associated with the social media account(s) on which the Font Software is used.

The applicable follower tier is determined at the time of purchase and is reflected on the invoice. Temporary increases in reach due to paid promotion do not, by themselves, require an upgrade, provided the content is distributed exclusively within social media platforms.

    8. Broadcast License

    8.1 Grant of License

The Broadcast License permits use of the Font Software in broadcast and large-scale video media.

The Licensee is responsible for selecting the appropriate license tier based on reasonably accurate information available at the time of purchase. If actual usage materially exceeds the licensed tier, the Licensee must upgrade the license accordingly.

    8.2 Permitted Uses

    Including:

    • Television
    • Streaming platforms
    • Cinema advertising
    • Large-scale digital video campaigns

    8.3 Restrictions

    This license does not permit:

    • Print, web, logo, social media, or template use
    • Distribution or embedding of the Font Software files

    8.4 Clarification of Broadcast Use

Broadcast use refers to video content distributed through television, streaming services, cinema, or other broadcast channels outside of social media platforms.

Use of the Font Software in broadcast advertising, streaming commercials, cinema advertising, or similar large-scale distribution channels requires a Broadcast License, even if the same content also appears on social media.

    8.5 Campaign Reach-Based Licensing

Broadcast Licenses are priced based on the estimated campaign reach, as determined by the distribution method, platform, or media plan.

The applicable reach tier is selected at the time of purchase and is reflected on the invoice. If the campaign is distributed across multiple channels, the total combined reach must be considered when selecting the appropriate license tier.

    9. Template License

    9.1 Grant of License

The Template License permits use of the Font Software in templates sold or distributed to multiple End Users.

    9.2 Conditions

    The Licensee must ensure that:

    • Font extraction by End Users is technically not possible
    • Font files are not included, embedded, or accessible
    • End Users may edit text only within the constraints of the platform

    9.3 Restrictions

The Template License does not permit:

    • Inclusion of font files
    • Use outside the licensed template product
    • Use in editable source files where extraction is possible

    10. Modification of Font Software

Except where explicitly permitted (such as logo outline modification), the Licensee may not modify, adapt, translate, reverse engineer, or create derivative works from the Font Software.

    11. Redistribution

Under no circumstances may the Licensee sell, rent, lease, lend, sublicense, distribute, or otherwise make available the Font Software or any part thereof.

    12. Termination

This Agreement shall terminate automatically if the Licensee breaches any term.

Upon termination, all use of the Font Software must cease, and all copies must be deleted.

    13. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Font Software is provided “as is,” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

    14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SilkType shall not be liable for any damages arising from use or inability to use the Font Software, including but not limited to loss of profits, business interruption, or data loss.

    15. Severability

If any provision of this Agreement is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

    16. Force Majeure

SilkType shall not be liable for failure or delay in performance resulting from events beyond its reasonable control, including acts of God, natural disasters, war, labor disputes, governmental actions, power failures, or internet outages.

    17. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Iceland.

Any disputes arising from this Agreement shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of Iceland.
